Week 8 was a "Dancing with the Stars" roller coaster for Team USA athletes. Two earned their first perfect scores of the season as the couples danced in pairs for the celebrity dance duels. Para-snowboarding bronze medalist Amy Purdy reached the top of the leaderboard for the first time this season, earning 40 out of 40 for her Argentine tango and 39 out of 40 for her celebrity dance duel with actor James Maslow for a total of 79 out of 80. Olympic ice dance gold medalist Charlie White earned 40 out of 40 for his quickstep and added 38 out of 40 for his celebrity dance duel contemporary dance with actress Candace Cameron Bure, scoring a total of 78 out of 80 for second place. Meryl Davis, White's ice dance partner, earned 36 out of 40 for her rumba and 34 out of 40 for her celebrity dance duel samba with actress Danica McKellar, totaling 70 out of 80 for sixth place.
