Gordy Sheer November 26, 2009

The links below contain audio from the Nov. 25 weekly team teleconference. The call featured USA Luge athletes including reigning World Champion Erin Hamlin (Remsen, N.Y), who can qualify for her second Olympic Team with a top-five result at this weekend's World Cup #2 in Igls, Austria. Hamlin finished fourth in last year's event. Joining Hamlin will be 16 year-old Emily Sweeney (Suffield, Conn.) and 17 year-old Kate Hansen (La Canada, Calif.), both trying to earn berth on the 2010 Olympic squad despite their young age. The veteran duo of Mark Grimmette (Muskegon, Mich. and Lake Placid, N.Y.) and Brian Martin (Palo Alto, Calif. and Lake Placid, N.Y.) also hope to earn a spot on the Olympic team with a top-five finish. At the 2007 World Championships held in Igls, Grimmette and Martin finished third. Tony Benshoof, the most successful men's racer in USA Luge history will also join the call. Benshoof recently re-herniated the L1-S5 disk in his back, but has been able to train cautiously thus far.
