Colorado Springs, Colo. - Jacquelynn Berube (Colorado Springs, Colo.) placed 23rd in the 63kg division at the World Championships in Goyang, Korea on Wednesday.
A former top-five finisher at the World Championships, Berube had two challenges to face at her fifth Worlds. A shoulder injury and subsequent surgery hampered her ability to train for much of the summer and a recent move from 58kg to 63kg pitted her against stronger opponents.
Berube had clean lifts in the snatch where her best was 78kg, but after an opening 98kg clean and jerk, she failed to complete her next two attempts at 103kg and 105kg.
Team USA will have two athletes competing in the 85kg division on Thursday as three-time World Team members Kendrick Farris (Shreveport, La.) and Matthew Bruce (Baton Rouge, La.) vie a chance to place in the top 10.
Both players have had top-15 finishes in the past and Farris holds the advantage of having placed eighth at the 2009 Olympic Games in Beijing.
