Ted Ligety's green suit

by Peggy Shinn / February 21, 2010

In super combined, Ted Ligety didn’t race in his usual red-white-and-blue Team USA speedsuit. Instead, Spyder made special suits for the U.S. defending Olympic gold medalists — Ligety and Julia Mancuso. Ligety’s was a garish neon green and orange get-up.

The colors might have come as no surprise. Ligety made a name for himself on the World Cup circuit with his bright goggles. After he won his gold medal at the 2006 Olympics, he started his own goggle company called Shred, and Shred’s color palette is anything but subdued.

So did Ligety pick the colors of his super combined speedsuit?

“I think they looked on the Shred website and picked out the most prevalent colors,” Ligety said. “They missed the Nastify green tone a little bit, but it’s close.”

Still, he wasn’t wild about the suit.

“It’s a little too Slovenian for my taste,” he said. “But it’s cool. It’s neat to have something a little bit different.”

No word yet on what Mancuso’s giant slalom suit will look like.
