DORMAGEN, Germany – The United States entered women’s team on both the Senior and FILA Cadet divisions at the respected German Grand Prix this weekend.

Team USA came home with one medal, a gold medal in the FILA Cadet division, by Maya Nelson (Denver, Colo.) in the 56 kg division.

Nelson won five straight matches on the way to the title, including a victory over Tatiana Novik of Russia in the championship finals.

Also wrestling in a medal match on the FILA Cadet level was two-time FILA Cadet World Team member Sariyah Jones (Modesto, Calif.), who finished fourth at 49 kg. Jones lost her first match, then rallied with three straight wins to qualify for the bronze-medal match, where she was beaten by Serena Bolke of Germany.

The U.S. entered three athletes in the Senior division, which featured a very strong international field.

The top U.S. finish was fifth place at 55 kg by high school star Becka Leathers (Choctaw, Okla). Leathers finished 1-2 in her weight class, losing in a bronze-medal match to Zalina Siadkova of Belarus.
