BELGRADE, Serbia – Chris Brown of Boyds, Md. won a gold medal at 85 kg in Div. E, one of three U.S. Greco-Roman medalists at the Veterans World Championships on Friday.

Brown was dominant in going 3-0 in the tournament. He opened with a 48 second pin over Don Pavel of Kazakshtan in the quarterfinals, then stopped Shaban Divslar of Iran, 11-3. In the finals, he scored a second-period pin over Marko Sarcanski of Serbia.

It was Brown’s second medal of the Veterans World Championships, after winning a bronze medal in freestyle on Tuesday.

It was a great day for Brown in other ways, as he lost his passport and wallet in a taxi cab a few days ago. The taxi company returned everything to him in full today.

Winning a silver medal at 76 kg in Div. E was Bruce Moe of Hillsboro, N.D., who was defeated in the finals by Anatolli Soroka of Ukraine, 3-6. Moe opened with wins over A. Aliabbasov of Azerbaijan and Ivan Rangelov of Bulgaria.

Taking a bronze medal in Div. F at 63 kg was Steve Barkman of Bloomsbury, N.J., who dropped matches to two Russian opponents in his roundrobin competition.

Moe and Barkman also won their second medals of the week, as both were freestyle bronze medalists on Tuesday.

The other U.S. wrestler to compete on Friday, Mark Trice of Poway, Calif., placed fifth at 130 kg in Div. B with a 1-2 record.
