There will be two international women’s freestyle matches between stars from the United States and Canada as part of the outstanding wrestling card at the 2013 Grapple at the Garden, presented by Suplay.com, at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Sunday, December 1.

2012 World champion and three-time World medalist Adeline Gray (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC/Titan Mercury WC) will face Canadian World Team member Erica Wiebe (Calgary, Alberta/Dinos WC) at 72 kg/158.5 lbs.

Gray has won World gold medals at the Junior, University and Senior levels. She has won a medal at the last three Senior World Championships.

Wiebe was seventh at the 2013 World Championships. She won a silver medal at the 2012 University World Championships and a bronze medal at the 2013 World University Games.

These two have battled a number of times, with both athletes winning bouts. Gray won the most recent battle last weekend at the New York Athletic Club International. Gray also beat Wiebe in the finals of the 2012 University World Championships.

“I am excited. I am looking forward to competing on the big stage and putting on a good show. I’d like to get a nice throw out there. Erica is tough. She beat the Olympic champion this year, and she has had a good season. It will be a very good match,” said Gray.

2012 World silver medalist Helen Maroulis (Rockford, Md./Sunkist Kids) will square off with Canadian World Team member Jillian Gallays (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan/Saskatoon WC) at 55 kg/121 lbs.

Maroulis has competed on four U.S. Senior World teams, placing second, fifth, seventh and eighth during her career. She won three medals at the Junior World Championships. Maroulis is also a three-time WCWA women’s college national champion.

Gallays placed eighth in the 2010 World Championships and also competed in the 2013 World Championships. She was fifth in the 2006 Junior World Championships.

“I was real excited when I heard I would be able to wrestle there. It is not a place I ever expected to wrestle. To go to Madison Square Garden to compete is a fantastic opportunity. Jillian is scrappy and strong. It is always fun to wrestle her because it is a battle,” said Maroulis.

There will also be a featured men’s freestyle bout between four-time NCAA champion Kyle Dake from Cornell against NCAA champion Bubba Jenkins of Arizona State, who is now a mixed martial arts fighter with Bellator MMA.

Other international-style bouts featuring some top USA Wrestling Senior clubs will be included in the event, which will be announced shortly.

The second annual Grapple at the Garden will also showcase 16 college teams, competing in two rounds of dual meets. Included are 12 Division I teams, plus two Division III teams, and a pair of NCWA club teams from local colleges.

The full day of wrestling will include two dual meet sessions with the first starting at 10:00 a.m. with Maryland vs. Cornell, Rutgers vs. George Mason, Illinois vs. Bloomsburg, Hofstra vs. Army, Boston U. vs. Penn, Drexel vs. Princeton, and Stony Brook vs. West Chester CC. Session two will begin at 12:00 p.m. and will feature Cornell vs. Illinois, Rutgers vs. Maryland, Princeton vs. Army, Bloomsburg vs. Penn, George Mason vs. Drexel, Hofstra vs. Boston U, and NYU vs. Stevens.

It will also feature the finals of the Beat The Streets PSAL Thanksgiving Dual Meet Invitational, featuring 16 high schools. Moreover, the finals of the inaugural Grapple at the Garden middle school championship, produced in association with the Metropolitan Wrestling Association, will also take place. Registration is still open at www.wrestlereg.com

Tickets start at $20.00 and can be purchased at the Madison Square Garden box office, all Ticketmaster outlets and online at www.thegarden.com/grapple.
