LARAMIE, Wyo. - It was a battle of Cowboys Saturday night in Laramie, Wyoming as Oklahoma State invaded the University of Wyoming and came away with a dominant 30-6 victory over the hometown Wyoming Cowboys.
Leading the charge for Oklahoma State was defending National Champion at 174 lbs. Chris Perry as he earned his 100th career collegiate victory defeating Wyoming’s Brent Havlik by major decision 11-3.
Fans witnessed a matchup of former teammates at 165 lbs. as Oklahoma State standout Tyler Caldwell faced off against Oklahoma State transfer, now Wyoming Cowboy, Dallas Bailey. Caldwell proved dominant against Bailey, earning a 17-5 major decision victory.
Oklahoma State All-American Alex Dieringer wrestled with a vengeance in Laramie after a sluggish performance against Northern Colorado earlier in the day. Dieringer made quick work of Wyoming’s Tanner Miller picking up a first period fall.
The Wyoming Cowboys secured a couple big victories of their own, none better than an upset special at 197 lbs. as Shane Woods knocked off returning Oklahoma State All-American Blake Rosholt in a tight 3-2 bout.
Returning Wyoming All-American Tyler Cox picked up a come from behind victory at 125 lbs. locking up a takedown and nearfall with less than 10 second remaining in the match reversing a 3-4 defeat into a 7-4 victory over Oklahoma State sophomore Eddie Kilmara.
The Oklahoma State Cowboys won a total of eight matches in the dual also picking up victories from Jon Morrison at 133 lbs., Anthony Collica at 141 lbs., Josh Kindig at 149 lbs., Nolan Boyd at 184 lbs. and Austin Marsden at 285 lbs.
Oklahoma State Head Coach John Smith was applauded the effort of his team coming up with a win in a tough environment.
“It’s a tough match any time you wrestle here,” Smith said. “We had to fight for points tonight. I think the thing I saw was key were third period takedowns and made a difference in really separating the score.”
The 30-6 victory over Wyoming marked the second Oklahoma State dual victory on the day as the Cowboys blanked Northern Colorado earlier in the day 48-0.
Oklahoma State improved their dual record to 3-2 on the season as Wyoming fell to 1-2 overall.
