Oh U S Grappling Team win USOC Twitter voting for December awards

Double World Grappling champion Felicia Oh (Valencia, Calif./Big John McCarthy's UTA) as well as the 2009 U.S. Grappling World Team won the U.S. Olympic Committee Twitter fan voting for their major monthly awards for December.

Oh won the USOC Twitter voting for SportsWoman of the Month, receiving 58% of the vote with 293 votes. Placing second was Sara Hammer of Cycling, with 22% of the vote with 112 votes. There were a total of 15 different sports who had athletes represented on the ballot.

Oh won a pair of gold medals at the FILA Grappling World Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Dec. 12-13. She captured the 50 kg/110 lbs. division in both the No-Gi and Gi divisions.

The 2009 U.S. Grappling Team won the USOC Twitter voting for Team of the Month, receiving 66% of the votes with 161 votes. The Sailing team of Stu McNay and Graham Biehl placed second with 23% of the vote with 57 votes. There were six different sports that submitted entries this month.

The United States won the team title in all four divisions contested at the FILA Grappling World Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The United States won both the men's and women's divisions in No-Gi Grappling on Saturday, Dec. 12, then captured both the men's and women's divisions in Gi Grappling on Sunday, Dec. 13. The U.S. team was coached by USA Grappling National Coach Ricardo Liborio.

In the USOC Twitter vote for SportsMan of the Month, double World Grappling champion Kelly Anundson (Columbia, S.C./Black Knight WC) placed second in the voting. Winning the men's vote was Clay Johnson of Sailing, with 37% of the vote with 307 votes. Anundson was second with 31% of the vote with 141 votes.

Anundson won two gold medals in No-Gi Grappling at the FILA Grappling World Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. On Saturday, Dec. 12, Anundson won the 120 kg/264.5 lbs. title and on Sunday, Dec. 13, Anundson won the Open division for men in No-Gi Grappling, a division in which athletes from all weight classes were eligible to enter.

Each month, the USOC opens up a poll on Twitter for fans to give their choices for Athlete of the Month. The fan vote will count 10% towards the final selection, which also includes a ballot with national media and USOC leadership.

The December Athlete of the Month final selections are expected later this week.
