Matt Brown named Wrestler of the Week

Matt Brown (West Valley City, Utah/Penn State University) has been named Wrestler of the Week.

Each week, will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

The fifth-seeded Brown captured the Big Ten title at 174 pounds at Assembly Hall on Sunday in Champaign, Ill.

Brown, a sophomore, defeated No. 2 seed Mike Evans of Iowa 7-3 in the finals.

Brown was one of four champions for the top-ranked Nittany Lions, who won their third straight Big Ten team title.

Brown takes a 25-4 record into the NCAA Championships, set for March 21-23 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Brown qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in freestyle wrestling in 2012.
