Phil Keddy named Wrestler of the Week

Phil Keddy (Iowa City, Iowa/Hawkeye WC) has been named Wrestler of the Week.

Each week, will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

Keddy celebrated his 26th birthday by winning the freestyle title at 84 kg/185 lbs. at the Pan American Championships on Sunday in Panama City, Panama.

Keddy, who starred at Iowa, stopped Tamerlan Tagziev of Canada in the finals, 1-1, 2-1. Keddy had a big semifinal victory over Yuriesku Torreblanco Queralta of Cuba, 0-2, 1-1, 2-0, and a victory over Pool Ambrosio Greifo of Peru, 1-0, 3-0.

Keddy was one of three champions for the U.S., which captured the team title.
