Jeff Monson (Olympia, Wash./American Top Team) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

Monson won a gold medal in the unlimited weight class at the FILA Grappling World Championships in Krakow, Poland on Saturday.

Monson claimed his third FILA No-Gi Grappling World title, to go along with his World titles in 2007 and 2008. Monson, who competed in wrestling for Oregon State and Illinois, is well known for his career in professional Mixed Martial Arts.

Monson won three matches to claim his gold medal. He defeated Juan Espino of Spain in the finals, 1-0 in overtime. His other wins were over G. Kastinopoulos of Greece, 3-1 and Magnus Strandner of Sweden, 2-1.
