USAW Direct Athlete Support and Development

Direct Athlete Support is intended to assist Elite, Pre-Elite and Emerging Elite athletes in training and development through direct payment, Elite Athlete Health Insurance (EAHI) benefits and opportunities to train in resident programs that provide housing and meals.

In 2011, the Board of Directors committed 5% of USAW's annual cash revenues to Direct Athlete Support and Development (DASD) and has continued to fund athletes through this program at the following levels:
2011 - $72,437; 2012 -  $91,630; 2013 - $111,754.  DASD funding is provided in addition to funding for International Competition and developmental camps for qualified athletes.

USOC Direct Athlete Support

The United States Olympic Committee offers Direct Athlete Support (DAS) as part of USA Weightlifting's Performance Pool Agreement.  Although specific criteria varies from year to year, DAS is targeted to athletes with Olympic Games medal potential and is generally granted to athletes with proven success in Olympic Games, World Championships and other Major International Events
