DAY 8-Team USA Update 5/18/12

Shane Maier totaled 377 kg in the Pan American Championships, snatching 165 kg and jerking a personal record 212 kg in the competition. Maier completed five of six attempts on the day.
Cameron Swart totaled 374 kg, snatching 163 kg and jerking a personal record 211 kg. Swart completed three of six attempts in the competition.
At the conclusion of the 105+ kg category competition, Shane Maier placed third in the C&J with a lift of 212 kg, securing the C&J bronze medal.
John Bassler, lifting in his first international competition, snatched 135kg, but did not complete any of three attempts in the C&J in the Junior World Championships.
Team USA was awarded the IWF men's second place Pan American team trophy at the closing ceremonies of the 2012 Pan American Championships in Guatemala.
This concludes Team USA participation on the platform in this competition.
DAY 7-Team USA Update 5/17/12

Valerios Leonidis, 5 time world record holder, who won three silver medals and a bronze in Olympic and World Championship competition for Russia and Greece, now coaching for Greece.
Leonidis is perhaps best remembered for his battle against Naim Sulemaneglou at the 1996 Olympic Games, considered by many as the greatest head to head weightlifting match ever contested.
Donny Shankle, lifting in the 105 kg category in the Pan American Championships, totaled 330 kg , snatching 150 kg and jerking 180 kg. Shankle completed four of six lifts in the competition.
Kollin Cockrell, competing in the Junior World Championships 105 kg category, his first international competition, totaled a personal record 323 kg, snatching 138 kg and jerking a personal best 185 kg. Cockrell completed five of six attempts in the competition.
Shelbie Serpan, lifting in the 75+ category in both the Junior World and Pan American Championships, totaled 218 kg , setting three personal records and increasing her total 6 kg.
Serpan snatched 95 kg and 98 kg personal bests, and jerked 120 kg. Her total was also a personal record.
Chioma Amaechi, lifting in the 75+ catergory, won gold, silver and bronze medals competing in the combined Pan American and Junior World Championships competitions.
Amaechi totaled 238 kg, winning gold in the Junior World Championships c&j and c&j silver in the Pan American Championships with a lift of 137 kg.
Amaechi finished third in the Junior World Championships superheavyweight category overall, securing a bronze medal in the event.
She finished fourth in the Pan American Championships, completing three of six attempts on the day in the combined competitions.

DAY 6-Team USA Update 5/16/12
Ian Wilson, competing in the Olympic Qualification, Junior World Championship, and Pan American Championship events, totaled 335 kg, snatching 145 kg and jerking 190 kg, in a three for six performance in the competition at 94 kg.
Phil Sabatini totaled 323 kg at the Pan American Championships, completing three of six attempts, snatching 140 kg and jerking 183 kg.
Wilson finished third in the Olympic Qualification Event, and Sabatini finished fifth, securing 44 points for Team USA. Total team scoring now stands at 110 points, with one lifter, Don Shankle, to go, for point scoring.DAY 5-Team USA Update 5/15/12

Kendrick Farris and Matt Bruce, competing in the 85 kg category at the Pan American Championships, placed 5th and 7th overall, totaling 337 kg and 317 kg in the competition. Farris completed four of six attempts in the competition; Bruce completed three of six.
In the Olympic Qualification Event, Farris placed third, securing 23 points for Team USA. Bruce placed fifth, scoring 21 points. With three point scorers yet to compete, Team USA overall points scored total 66, including 22 points scored by Mike Cerbus, who finished fourth in the 77 kg category.
John McGovern, lifting in his first international competition, set six personal records at the Junior World Championships. Participating in only his fifth weightlifting event, McGovern set personal records in the snatch at 120 kg, two jerks at 160 kg and 165 kg, and three totals at 275 kg, 280 kg, and 285 kg. McGovern completed five of six attempts in the competition.
In her first international competition, Arlene Ward, competing in the 69 kg category, set 2 personal records at the Pan American Championships. Ward snatched a personal best 84 kg and totaled 187kg in a six of six performance.
D'Angelo Osorio totaled 293 kg in the 85 kg category at the Junior World Championships, snatching 131 kg and jerking 162 kg, completing two of six attempts in the competition.
DAY 4-Team USA Update 5/14/12
Phillip Wilhelm, competing at 77 kg in his first international competition , exceeded his personal record snatch at 118 kg, c&j at 152 kg, and total at 270 kg in the Junior World Championships. Wilhelm completed four of six lifts in the competition.
Mike Cerbus, competing in the 77 kg category in the Pan American Championships, exceeded his personal best c&j at 165 and total at 300 kg, in a four for six performance. Competing in his first international competition, Cerbus exceeded his previous best total by 4 kg.
Ashley Perkovich, competing in the 63 kg category, set personal records in the snatch at 90 kg, c&j at 108 kg and total at 198 kg in the Pan American Championships, her first senior international competition. Perkovich completed three of six attempts in the competition.
Rizelyx Rivera, also competing in the 63 kg category, missed three attempts at 105 kg in the c&j after an 87 kg snatch, and did not post a total in the competition.
DAY 3-Team USA Update 5/13/12
Lifting in their first Junior World Championships, Hope Stockel and Hailee Lollar totaled 148 kg and 145 kg in the 58 kg category. Both lifters completed four of six lifts. Stockel completed three snatches, setting a personal record of 69 kg on her third. On her third attempt c&j, Stockel cleaned 82 kg, but was turned down two to one on a press out.
Jackie Berube, lifting in the Pan American Championships 58 kg category, totaled 186 kg, snatching 83 kg and jerking 103 kg, in a two for six performance.
DAY 2-Team USA Update 5/12/12
Team USA 53 kg lifters competed in today's first session, Group C - Jacque Payne in the Pan American Championships, and Ashley Koren and Jenny Lam in the Junior Worlds competition.
Payne totaled 153 kg in a four for six performance, snatching 71 kg and jerking 82 kg in her first international competition.
Koren totaled 147 kg, setting snatch and c&j personal records at 63 kg and 84 kg, just missing her third jerk at 87 kg due to right arm press out. In a three for six day, Koren's total was also a personal best.
Lam had a three for six day, totaling 145 kg snatching 65 kg, and jerking 80 kg.
Darrel Barnes, competing in the Junior World Championships 62 kg category, totaled 251 kg in a four for six performance, setting a Junior American record in the snatch at 116 kg.

After a first attempt success in the jerk at 135 kg, Barnes was unable to complete his next two attempts at 140 kg. Close to blacking out after recovering from his second attempt clean, Barnes remained dizzy on his third and was unable to clean the weight.
Charles Ssekyaaya, competing for Uganda and a visiting resident athlete at the Olympic Training Center, totaled 245 kg, snatching 105 kg and jerking 140.
DAY 1-Team USA Update 5/11/12
Ellen Kercher, competing in her first Junior World Championships at 48 kg, completed five of six attempts to total 141 kg, in the process setting four personal records with a 64 kg snatch, 77 kg c&j, and a 139 kg total after her 75 kg jerk. Kercher's only miss was her third attempt 79 kg c&j, missing the jerk after an easy clean.

Darren Barnes, lifting in the 56 kg category, in the Junior World Weightlifting Championships, set six new junior and senior American records in the snatch, c&j, and total, lifting 104 kg, 129 kg, and and totaling 233 kg.
Barnes, now a Junior, the only Amreican ever to sweep the Youth, Junior and Senior records simultaneously, again shattered his existing records across the board in a four for six performance.
