USA Weightlifting is very pleased and proud to announce that the Board of Directors has voted to add two stars of our sport to the USAW Hall of Fame: Carla Garrett and CJ Bennett.
Carla Garrett was a four time USAW National Champion, winning the 82.5+ kg. category from 1991 through 1994. She represented the US at the World Championships in 1991 and 1993, winning two silver medals in the total. She also won two silver medals in the C&J, and silver and bronze medals in the snatch. In addition, Carla was also an outstanding performer in the field events, having made the 1992 US Olympic Team that represented us in Barcelona, where she competed in the discus.
CJ Bennett has been involved in the sport of weightlifting for more than 40 years, first as an athlete, and then as a coach, referee and administrator. He has been a National Referee since 1975, and an International Referee since 1977, becoming a Category One International Referee in 2000. He also served as a member of the USAW Technical Committee from 2004-2008 and has been on the USAW Board of Directors since January of 2011. CJ has also been very active in a number of organizations that support those who have Cerebral Palsy.
We are sure you will join us in congratulating these outstanding new inductees to our HOF.
