2013 American Open
The Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau (DCVB) in conjunction with Spoon Barbell Club will host the 2013 USA Weightlifting American Open December 6-8, 2013. The Dallas CVB and our community partners strive to make Dallas the ultimate sports destination by recruiting, supporting, and retaining sports competitions and meetings on the regional, national and international scale to generate overnight stays, positively impact the area’s economic condition, or garner widespread media exposure.
Spoon Barbell Club was started in 1974 by Tom Witherspoon and has produced many notable lifters. These lifters include Olympians Sam Walker (Montreal 1976) and Chad Vaughn (Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008) along with Jim Napier (National Champion) and Gary Deal (National Masters Champion).
