A special message from U.S. Women’s National Team Head Coach, Karch Kiraly

Dear 2013 Girls’ High Performance Tryout Athlete:

On behalf of the USA Women's National Volleyball Team, I'd like to thank you for your participation in the USAV High Performance Tryouts this year – we know your time, energy, and money are precious resources, and we appreciate that you would choose to spend some of them with us.

The High Performance Pipeline is an integral part of the USA National Team system.  In fact if you check the history, you’ll see that many of athletes who played for Team USA in the last four years, and helped Team USA win a silver medal in London, are former Pipeline players.

Here in Anaheim, California, where the Women's National Team trains, one of the pillars of our program is the idea of Mastery; of Learning How to Learn.  This means constantly striving to be masters of our craft, of being in a state of permanent learning and improvement to make our fundamentals - and our ability to see the game - as solid as possible.  This is a very difficult task, because it demands that each athlete operate at the edge of her ability level, which often means being uncomfortable while taking risks and trying new things.

For you all, competing with and against some of the best volleyball athletes in the United States and abroad is an invaluable opportunity to test your mastery of fundamentals, to test your ability to see the game, to learn, and to grow.  We are also fortunate to have some of the finest coaches in the country teaching and coaching our HP programs.  You can see why we know that these programs provide such a wonderful opportunity for our HP athletes to improve.

We hope you had a great tryout experience and we hope sincerely to see you in a USA Volleyball High Performance Program this summer, if that opportunity was afforded to you from your tryout evaluation.  If you did not make a program this year, please know that hard work and perseverance is one of the cornerstones of Mastery.  We look forward to seeing you at tryouts again in 2014 after another year of solid training and growth under your belt.  Regardless of your tryout result, we wish you all the best in your volleyball career.

Strive to Master Your Craft, Play Hard, and good luck.

Karch Kiraly, Head Coach
U.S. Women’s National Team
