2015 Girls' TryoutsTryout Registration is now open.
*Please note that this year we are introducing a new registration and account management system. Every current and prospective High Performance athlete and coach will be required to create an account in the new system before completing tryout registration in 2015.
Registration $65 - Closes one week (7 days) prior to tryout date
*Tryout participation is guaranteed if you register at least 7 days in advance, registration is capped and space is limited for athletes who register late.
Check-in and Physical Testing begins at the tryout start time. We recommend arriving early as there may be a line at check-in, but typically check-in will not begin until the start of the tryout. Please note that the check-in process may begin earlier for larger tryouts at National Qualifiers and large cities.

What to Bring
All tryout attendees must bring the following completed forms to the tryout. You must complete registration online prior to the tryout start time and bring your completed medical release form with you to the tryout.
USA Volleyball Membership
All athletes trying out for USAV HP must be USA Volleyball members and provide proof of membership or are required to pay a $5 One-Time Event Membership fee in addition to their registration fee. This fee covers mandatory insurance for the duration of the tryout. If you do not know your number, please contact your volleyball club or contact the region in which you play - USA Volleyball cannot provide you with your membership number.
What Position Should I Play?
Sometimes, volleyball players play more than one position for their school and/or club team. We recommend that you try out for the position in which you are most successful. You must choose one position for a tryout as our evaluators are looking at skills specific to each position while evaluating. Athletes may not try out in more than one position at a given tryout. If you try out in one position and decide that you would like to also try out in another position, you will need to register, pay the registration fee, and attend another tryout in that position. Please know that in almost ALL cases when players try out in two positions at two tryouts, the evaluation at each tryout places the athlete in the same program. Players who try out for more than one position will receive an invitation for the position for which he or she is ranked the highest. Athletes will be invited to programs by position and may not switch to another position for the program, so please choose carefully!
Can I Attend More Than One Tryout?
You are more than welcome to attend as many tryouts as you like. Athletes who attend more than one tryout in a given year will receive an invitation for a program based on the tryout at which you were evaluated to a higher-level program. Again, please know that in almost ALL cases when players try out at two tryouts, the evaluation at each tryout places the athlete in the same level program.
When Would USAV HP Suggest Attending More Than One Tryout?
1. If you leave the tryout and think, "That was the worst volleyball I've ever played and is not representative of me as a player."
2. If you are sick or injured and feel that you could perform better another time.
3. If you are interested in trying out in another position (remember, USAV will decide in which position you will train for the summer, based on the higher-level program evaluation).

How Should I Prepare For A USAV High Performance Tryout?
There is nothing special you should do - you should just expect to play a lot of volleyball with other great players from across the country! You may want to look over the USAV High Performance Tryout Plan. The drills and games conducted at the tryout are pretty typical and give the evaluators lots of opportunities to see you play. Mostly, come with a great attitude and terrific work ethic and just do YOUR best. Don't compare yourself with others around you - you will be evaluated individually in your age group against all players across the country, not the people next to whom you're playing at the tryout. The best thing to do is listen to the coaches giving instruction, hustle, play hard, and be a great teammate. Represent for USA!

What To Expect
Check-in and physical testing begins at the tryout start time through the first hour of the tryout. You are welcome to check-in anytime within that time, though most athletes are more comfortable at the tryout when arriving early. All types of registration can be completed online, including Last Chance Registration up until the tryout start time. When you arrive, you will get in the check-in line either just outside the gym or right inside the gym. You should make sure you have your 2015 Player Medical Release completely filled out and signed in all appropriate places. Make sure to pick up a parents’ meeting handout regardless of if your parents are with you or not. There is lots of great information there about USAV HP. Once you have turned in your paperwork, you will receive your numbered tryout shirt. The number is randomly assigned to you - it is just a way for the coaches to identify and easily evaluate you. You will want to put your shirt on right away.
FOR GIRLS ONLY:
After you have your shirt on, the coaches will be conducting physical testing. All players will be tested on the shuttle run, vertical jump, block jump; everyone except for liberos will be evaluated on their serve before the tryout officially begins. You will want to go through each of the evaluation stations right away. If you do not get your physical testing done before the tryout starts (shuttle run and/or jump testing), it is your responsibility to let a coach know as soon as the tryout finishes so that you can get those things completed. If you missed the serve evaluation station, not to worry, as you will be evaluated again during the tryout. When it is time to start, the coaches will pull the athletes together and have a short meeting. Right after the athletes’ meeting, the parents will meet at an on-site location and have an informational meeting of their own with a USAV Staff Member.
Some coaches will be leading the drills, while others will be strictly evaluating. Remember, this is a tryout not a camp, so the coaches will probably not give you any coaching or feedback they are just there to either run the drills or evaluate your play. You will be evaluated on all skills pertinent to your position. This means that the drills and activities that you do at the tryout will depend completely on the position in which you tryout. At the end of the tryout, there may be a small wrap-up meeting. The most important thing is that you have fun and enjoy playing the game of volleyball! The USAV HP Evaluators are experts at their craft - they can judge your ability and potential just by watching you play for a short time, so the more you work hard and really enjoy yourself, the more it will show in your evaluation!
Transfers and Refunds
USAV will transfer your registration to another tryout at no cost, should you be unable to attend the tryout for which you registered. Please just e-mail the athlete’s name and birth date, the tryout for which he or she is currently registered, and the tryout to which he or she would like to transfer to firstname.lastname@example.org. Refunds will be given for withdrawing from a tryout, less $20 for administrative cost. Please send an e-mail to email@example.com with the athlete's name, birth date and the tryout for which they are registered.
