The U.S. Women’s National Team is the highest level of programming for the Junior age group and will represent the United States at the NORCECA Continental Championship in the summer of 2014.  The 2nd tryout, training, and travel arrangements will be decided and posted here once the date of the competition has been released by NORCECA – hopefully by February of 2014.  Typically for the Junior age group, 19 – 24 athletes will be selected for an extended training and tryout period, at the end of which the 12 players will be selected to travel together to compete in the international competition.  Depending on the date of the competition, at times this team may be selected directly from the spring tryouts without an additional tryout period.  These athletes have the longest and most significant time commitment of all programs, however USA Volleyball covers all associated costs for this program.  Additional details will be added as more information becomes available.

The Junior A1 Program is the National Training Team Program for USA Volleyball in the Junior age group.  The athletes who participate in this program are in strong contention to fight for a position on the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team in the subsequent year. Participating athletes train as a group for 5 days before splitting into ability-tiered teams of 11 for the USA High Performance Championships immediately following training. Training is conducted by some of the top High Performance Pipeline Coaches in the country and features an intense international skill and system focus, including hands-on opponent scouting training. Teams are selected based on athlete performance during training.

The USA HP Championships is an international tournament hosted by USA Volleyball annually and features international teams from a myriad of countries plus Region High Performance teams from all over the United States. In the last two years, teams have come from Canada, Chile, China, Dominican Republic, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, and Puerto Rico. USA A1 Teams typically “play up” an age group for this tournament; for instance the Select play in the International Youth Division. The USA HP Championships is frequented by many college coaches across the country, both on staff in the A1 Program, Continental Team Programs, and Region HP Programs, and by unaffiliated coaches attending to actively recruit at the tournament.

The USA National A2 Invitational Team Program is designed to give more of the country’s top athletes the opportunity to work with top HP coaches at a competitive event. Players who participate in the program train for 4 days as a group, training in all skills and focusing on position-specific areas each day. On the fifth day, players are split into 8 tiered 8-player teams, in which they train for a full day under international rules and learn opponent scouting. The final two days of the program feature an international-style tournament culminating in a tournament championship on the final day. Besides the High Performance Pipeline Coaches who are also college coaches working the A2 Program, coaches from across the country are invited to watch the competition portion of the event this summer.
