The U.S. Girls’ Youth National Team is the highest level of programming for the Youth age group and will represent the United States at the NORCECA Continental Championship in the summer of 2014.  The 2nd tryout, training, and travel arrangements will be decided and posted here once the date of the competition has been released by NORCECA – hopefully by February of 2014.  Typically, 19 – 30 athletes will be selected for a “2nd tryout” following the release of spring tryout results.  From that group, 12 athletes will be selected to train and travel together to compete in the international competition.  These athletes have the longest and most significant time commitment of all programs, however USA Volleyball covers all associated costs for this program.  Additional details will be added as more information becomes available.

USA Girls’ Youth A1 National Training Team Program

  • Number of Athletes: 33
  • Program: USA High Performance Championships
  • Location: Tulsa, OK
  • Dates: 10 Day Program -July 17 – 27, 2014
  • Cost: $1255, plus travel to Tulsa, OK (TUL)

The Youth A1 Program is the National Training Team Program for USA Volleyball in the Youth age group.  The athletes who participate in this program are in strong contention to fight for a position on the U.S. Girls’ Youth National Team in the subsequent year. Participating athletes train as a group for 5 days before splitting into ability-tiered teams of 11 for the USA High Performance Championships immediately following training. Training is conducted by some of the top High Performance Pipeline Coaches in the country and features an intense international skill and system focus, including hands-on opponent scouting training. Teams are selected based on athlete performance during training.

The USA HP Championships is an international tournament hosted by USA Volleyball annually and features international teams from a myriad of countries plus Region High Performance teams from all over the United States. In the last two years, teams have come from Canada, Chile, China, Dominican Republic, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, and Puerto Rico. USA A1 Teams typically “play up” an age group for this tournament; for instance the Select play in the International Youth Division. The USA HP Championships is frequented by many college coaches across the country, both on staff in the A1 Program, Continental Team Programs, and Region HP Programs, and by unaffiliated coaches attending to actively recruit at the tournament.

Athletes who come from regions that do not send a team in their age group or older to the USA HPC’s are eligible for the USAV Continental Team Program. Continental Teams typically compete in their own age group division (Youth Teams compete in the Youth Division). USAV HP is aware of which Regions sponsor programs and know which athletes are eligible for programs when making program decisions.

The USA National A3 Training Program is a traditional USAV HP Training Program, consisting of 5 days of training and a round-robin international-style tournament. Players are introduced to international skills and systems as developed by our USA National Team coaching staff.  As with all HP Programs, coaches for the National A3 Training Program come from the USAV HP Coaching Pipeline.  Athletes who are offered a spot in the USA National A3 Training Program have the opportunity to choose the location and dates that work best for their family.
