Regression to the Mean

It is a top-10 part of IMPACT yet not always understood, so this 5-minute video specifically covers the science behind not being fooled by randomness in sport.

Thank You Mom - Pick Them Back Up

The video is airing on prime time in advance of Sochi but timeless in its message. Brings a tear to the eyes of parents of athletes.

How Do YOU Define Yourself?

This video offers quite the lesson… about choices, bullying, parenting, and what defines YOU – take the time to learn as I did. It is well worth the 13 minutes.

A powerful quote by renowned educator, child psychologist and psychotherapist Haim Ginott, from his book Teacher and Child and adapted in 1995 by the USOC Director of Coaching. Since 1988 USA Volleyball has offered its IMPACT course to new junior volleyball coaches, and has included this quote to help better understand the impact coaches have on their athletes. Our coaches in this video range from Olympic and Paralympic coaches like Hugh McCutcheon, Karch Kiraly, Paula Weishoff and Bill Hamiter, to grassroots and international coaches including T.R. Ellis, Sue Gozansky, Rita Buck-Crockett, Jon Aharoni, Ben Thomas, Patricia Daugherty and John Kessel.

The Impact of Coaches

The text of the words in this IMPACT of Coaches video:

I have come to the frightening conclusion
I am the decisive element on the court
It is my personal approach that creates the climate
It is my daily mood that makes the weather
As a coach, I possess tremendous power
to make a child's life miserable or joyous
I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration
I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal.
In all situations it is my response that decides
whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated and
a child humanized or dehumanized.
