COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 28, 2014) – USA Volleyball is proud to announce its 12-player U.S. Girls’ Youth National Volleyball Team roster that will compete in the biennial 2014 NORCECA Women’s U-18 Continental Championship being held June 22-30 in San Jose, Costa Rica.

The roster, comprised of athletes born in 1998 or 1999, includes four middle blockers, four outside/opposite hitters, three setters and one libero.

“The upcoming NORCECA Women’s U-18 Continental Championship is the qualifier for the 2015 FIVB Women’s U-18 World Championship,” U.S. Girls’ Youth National Team Head Coach Jim Stone said. “This group of athletes has the challenge of playing at a high enough level to qualify for the World Championship. In recent years, the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Puerto Rico have all been very competitive. The USA coaching staff is looking forward to getting started and working with all the athletes.”

Selected middle blockers are Belen Castillo (Merced, Calif., Delta Valley VBC), Sarah Langs (Fairview, Texas, Skyline Juniors), Clare Lenihan (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., SCVC) and Olivia Nicholson (North Platte, Neb., Flatrock VBC). The outside/opposite hitters are Morgyn Greer (Dripping Springs, Texas, Austin Juniors), Mimi Mirkovic (Irvine, Calif., Tstreet VBC), Milan Stokes (Long Beach, Calif., Mizuno Long Beach VBC) and Brooke Van Sickle (Battle Ground, Wash., Excel Now Volleyball).

The three setters chosen are Kathryn Plummer (Aliso Viejo, Calif., Tstreet VBC), Rachel Rippee (Springfield, Mo., Xplosion VBC) and Lauren Speckman (San Jose, Calif., Vision Volleyball). The libero for the tournament is Hailey Harward (Phoenix, Ariz., Aspire Volleyball Club).

The U.S. has won six consecutive NORCECA Women’s U-18 Continental Championships and seven total in the eight previous editions. The Americans won the event in 2012 and went on to earn the silver medal at the 2013 FIVB Women’s U-18 World Championship.

In addition to the 12-player roster, eight alternates have been named in case of injury. Alternates include middle blockers Carolyn Fauntleroy (Winnetka, Ill., Wildcat Juniors), Mackenzie May (Dubuque, Iowa, Iowa Rockets) and Sarah Swanson (Omaha, Neb., Nebraska Elite). Outside/opposite hitters on the alternate list are Madeline Haynes (Rocklin, Calif., Five Starz), Daley Krage (St. Charles, Ill., Club Fusion-Marengo) and Gia Milana (Washington Township, Mich., Oakland Elite). The alternate setters are Jade Horder (Fairfield, Calif., Club Solano) and Cali Thompson (Henderson, Nev., Vegas Encore).

Assisting Stone on the coaching staff will be Brooke Coulter and Lindsey Devine as assistant coaches, Jesse Tupac as technical coordinator and Kaitlyn Batten as team trainer. Heath Hoke will serve as the team leader at the NORCECA Championship.
