COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 22, 2014) – USA Volleyball has selected Dr. Ashley Dombkowski, managing director of San Francisco-based investment firm Bay City Capital, to its Board as an independent director effective July 1. Her position runs through June 30, 2017.

Dombkowski, who joined Bay City Capital last year, has more than 15 years of experience as an investor, operating executive and entrepreneur. As a venture capitalist, she focuses on building innovative health care companies and her responsibilities include fundraising, deal-sourcing and portfolio management. Prior to joining Bay City Capital, she was chief business officer and vice president of operations at consumer genomics company 23andMe where her responsibilities included business development, alliance management, operations and finance.

"I am honored to be selected to join the USA Volleyball Board of Directors as an independent director,” said Dombkowski, who has served on a dozen other Boards of Directors for both publicly-traded and privately-held venture-backed companies. “Volleyball and beach volleyball are experiencing a period of rapid growth. The consistent successes of our elite athletes in the Olympic Games have driven huge gains in popularity, collegiate programs are expanding their support by adding sand volleyball scholarships and a new generation of athletes has been inspired by the athleticism and sportsmanship of the game. I'm hopeful that my experience in finance and entrepreneurship will allow me to be an effective independent voice on the board, partnering with the other directors and the executive team in achieving USAV's next set of strategic objectives. And as a mother of two aspiring players, I'm particularly eager to delve into the world of junior volleyball, which is such a critical component of USAV's future."

Dombkowski’s other positions have included managing director at MPM Capital from 2000 to 2011, healthcare equity analyst with Tiger Management LLC from 1999 to 2000 and healthcare equity associate for Dresdner RCM Global Investments from 1998 to 1999.

She earned her doctorate’s degree in mathematics from Rice University in 1998 after earning her undergraduate degree in mathematics at Wellesley College in 1992.

The USA Volleyball Board of Directors are meeting Thursday afternoon and Friday to conclude the organization’s Annual Meetings being held in Phoenix this week.
