The U.S. Men (1-0) will be back in action against Guatemala (1-0) on Friday at 7 p.m. MT in SportsCenter I. The tournament winner will qualify for the FIVB World Championship Aug. 30-Sept. 21 in six cities in Poland.
“I think we were well prepared,” U.S. Head Coach John Speraw (Los Angeles) said of the victory. “We’ve been working on some things in the gym. We were able to execute those and that’s what we needed to do. We needed to make sure we keep getting better on our side of the net.”
The U.S. Men led St. Lucia in kills, 30-17, blocks, 10-0 and aces, 7-1. They never trailed and got long service runs from Taylor Sander (Huntington Beach, Calif.), Carson Clark (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Riley McKibbin (Honolulu).
“We talked a lot about our blocking defense and where we wanted to set up and I think everyone executed very well,” U.S. Team Captain Sean Rooney (Wheaton, Ill.) said.
