AVP Announces 2014 Tour Schedule

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 25, 2014) – The Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) has announced its 2014 tour schedule that features seven tournaments from May through September.

The AVP schedule reaches all four time zones of the United States with the St. Pete Open kicking off the tour May 29 to June 1 in St. Petersburg, Fla. The Milwaukee Open will be held July 3-6, which marks its first stop on the AVP Tour since 1998. The month of August has three events with the Salt Lake City Open held Aug. 7-10 in Salt Lake City, Utah, Manhattan Beach Open held Aug. 15-17 in Manhattan Beach, Calif., and the Cincinnati Open being held Aug. 28-31 in Mason, Ohio.

The September schedule includes the DO AC Pro Beach Volleyball Invitational being held Sept. 5-7 in Atlantic City, N.J., before the concluding AVP Championships held Sept. 25-28 in Huntington Beach, Calif.

Each of the AVP’s seven tour stops will feature three or four days of world-class beach volleyball competition featuring Olympic champions and world-renowned athletes competing in an unmatched beach-party atmosphere filled with music, food and interactive activities. Six of the seven cities were also on the 2013 schedule.

“The 2014 AVP schedule is our strongest and most exciting to date,” AVP Managing Partner Donald Sun said in an AVP press release. “These markets have shown tremendous support for the AVP and our athletes, and the continued growth of the tour is a testament to the strength of our sport.”

The AVP is home to the top U.S. beach players who have enjoyed success on both the domestic and international stages. The athletes include Olympic gold medalists Kerri Walsh-Jennings (2004, 2008, 2012), Todd Rogers (2008) and Phil Dalhausser (2008); Olympic silver medalists April Ross (2012) and Jen Kessy (2012); two-time Olympians Jake Gibb (2008, 2012) and Sean Rosenthal (2008, 2012); and Olympian Nicole Branagh (2008).

The tour also features many up-and-coming stars who are helping build the future of the sport, such as Casey Patterson, Theo Brunner, Summer Ross, Emily Day and 2013 AVP Rookies of the Year Tri Bourne and Lane Carico.

Tickets for the 2014 AVP tournaments will go on sale in the coming weeks, and information will be available at www.AVP.com.

The AVP also announced a new two-year agreement with IMG to manage event operations and assist in sales efforts for the growing tour. The AVP’s partnership with IMG brings together an attractive, emerging lifestyle brand with a management company renowned for its expertise in partnering with premiere properties in sports and many other fields.
