COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 11, 2014) – USA Volleyball will host concurrent men’s and women’s 2014 FIVB World Championship NORCECA third-round qualification tournaments May 15-18 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (OTC) in Colorado Springs. The Colorado Springs Sports Corp will serve as the local organizer.
The World Championship, the pinnacle event of the FIVB, is held every four years with each of its five zones holding qualifying tournaments into the 24-country event for each gender. NORCECA includes National Federations from North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

Both the men’s and women’s champions earn a spot into their respective FIVB World Championship.
The U.S. Men will face Guatemala, Haiti and St. Lucia in round robin action May 15-17. The U.S. Women host Guatemala, Honduras and Panama in round robin pool play May 15-17. Both genders will hold championship and third-place matches on May 18. All matches will be held in Sports Center I on the OTC complex.
Both tournament pool schedules will be announced later this month. All four teams in each gender tournament will play once a day. USA Volleyball will video stream all matches during the tournament.

Based on ranking within the NORCECA zone, both the U.S. Men and U.S. Women advanced directly to the third round of the NORCECA qualification system into the FIVB World Championship. Each of their third-round opponents competed in the second round. On the women’s side, Panama and Guatemala won their respective second-round pool and Honduras was the third-place team in its group. On the men’s side, Guatemala and St. Lucia won their second round pools and Haiti finished second.
The FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship will be staged Aug. 30 to Sept. 21 in six cities in Poland. The FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship will be held Sept. 23 to Oct. 12 in six cities throughout Italy.
