U.S. Beach Team Takes Third in Mexico
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 9, 2014) – The U.S. women’s beach team of Tealle Hunkus and Kim Dicello took the bronze medal on Sunday at the NORCECA Tour event in Huixquilucan, Mexico.
The U.S. men’s team of Todd Rogers (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Theo Brunner (Ridgefield, Conn.) finished fourth in Mexico.
In the women’s bronze medal match, Hunkus (Girard, Ohio) and Dicello (San Diego, Calif.) defeated Brandie Wilkerson and Claudia Seguin of Canada, 21-15, 18-21, 15-12. In the men’s bronze medal match, Rogers and Brunner fell to Juan Virgen and Lombardo Ontiveros of México, 26-24, 14-21, 15-12.
In both the men’s and women’s brackets, U.S. teams had to play each other in the quarterfinals of single-elimination.
On the women’s side, Hunkus and Dicello defeated Kendra VanZweiten (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Allison Daley (Grass Valley, Calif.), 14-21, 21-13, 15-10.
Rogers and Brunner defeated Will Montgomery (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Stafford Slick (Andover, Minn.), 21-16, 20-22, 15-12.
