USAV Names Women's Junior National Team
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 1, 2014) – USA Volleyball is proud to announce its 12-player U.S. Women’s Junior National Team (WJNT) roster which will compete at the NORCECA Women’s U-20 Continental Championship set for July 6-14 in Guatemala. The roster was decided through a second tryout of the U.S. Women’s Junior National Training Team held May 29-June 1 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

“The competition was just amazing,” U.S. Women’s Junior National Team Head Coach Tom Hogan said. “This was a great and fantastic training session. Every single training session was intense, competitive and extremely high level. I have been involved with a lot of these competitions and tryouts, and this was one of the best. The kids were great, and the level extremely high.”
Hogan and his coaching staff chose a roster that has four middle blocker, four outside/opposite hitters, two setters and two liberos.
Middle blockers are Rhamat Alhassan (Glenarden, Md., Metro American VBC), Danielle Cuttino (Indianapolis, Ind., Circle City VBC), Audriana Fitzmorris (Overland Park, Kan., Invasion VBC) and Mikaela Foecke (West Point, Iowa, Fusion VBC). Outside/opposite hitters selected for the WJNT are Molly Haggerty (Glen Ellyn, Ill., Sports Performance VBC), Hayley Hodson (Newport Beach, Calif., Tstreet VBC), Courtney Schwan (Milton, Wash., Kent Juniors) and Alexa Smith (Monument, Colo., Colorado Juniors).
The setters are Ainise Havili (Haltom City, Texas, TAV) and Jordyn Poulter (Aurora, Colo., Front Range VBC). The libero spot has Cat McCoy (Southlake, Texas, TAV) and Molly Sauer (Louisville, Ky., KIVA).
This year’s WJNT has loads of experience with eight players – Cuttino, Fitzmorris, Foecke, Haggerty, Hodson, Poulter, Sauer and Smith – who were part of the 2013 U.S. Girls’ Youth National Team that won silver at the FIVB Women’s U-18 World Championship. Alhassan, McCoy and Schwan were alternates for that roster in 2013.
The WJNT, comprised of athletes born in 1996 or 1997, will train in Minneapolis from June 29 through July 4 before leaving for Guatemala on July 5.
“We have a total of 6 ½ days to prepare for the NORCECA Championship, and these were three of those days,” Hogan said. “I really feel that this group prepared extremely well. All 18 players really helped prepare this group for NORCECA.”
