U17 Boys Beach Teams Advance in Mexico
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 17, 2014) – Two U.S. boys’ beach volleyball teams have advanced from pool play at the FIVB Under-17 World Championships in Acapulco, Mexico, while two girls’ teams went 3-1 in pool play on Thursday.

The boys’ team of No. 5-seeded Will Bantle (Oakland, Calif.) and Robert Mullahey (Los Angeles, Calif.) finished pool play 2-1 and advanced straight to the second round of single-elimination, which will be played Saturday.
The boys’ team of No. 16 Lucas Lossone (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Aidan Brown (Santa Fe, N.M.) went 1-2 in pool play and advanced to the first round of single elimination, where it will face Australia’s No. 8 Adam Kitto and Bryce Poland on Friday.
On the girls’ side, the team of No. 2 Morgan Martin (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and Kathryn Plummer (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) won both their pool play matches on Thursday to improve to 3-0 in the pool. The U.S. team defeated No. 23 Paraskevi Kourtidou and Maria Klepkou of Greece, 19-21, 21-15, 15-4. Then they beat Portugal’s No. 14 Beatriz Lacerda and Margarida Vasques, 22-20, 21-16. On Friday, they will face Netherlands’ No. 11 Nika Daalderop and Susanne Kos.
The first round of girls’ single elimination will also be played on Friday.
The No. 17-seeded U.S. team of Joy Dennis (Cypress, Calif.) and Haley Hallgren (South Lake, Texas) fell to Russia’s No. 8 Elizaveta Zayonchkovskaya and Yulia Smirnova, 21-19, 11-21, 15-11. They came back to beat New Zealand’s No. 5 Georgia Louise Coughlan and Emily Johnston, 21-9, 21-12.
On Friday, they will finish pool play against Mexico’s No. 9 Daniela Garcia and Martha Melissa Luna.
