The win came one day after the Canucks defeated Ka Ulukoa 27-25, 25-22 in pool play, but for Ka Ulukoa Friday’s win was déjà vu.

“We went through this same thing last year,” head coach David Engleman said. “We faced one of the teams that beat us in pool play, but beat them in the final. Our boys knew what to do, they were prepared for it.”

The Hawaiians were ready for every attack the Canucks threw in Friday’s bout, as they jumped out to commanding leads in both sets. This time around, Ka Ulukoa was too much to handle.

“We are really proud of how they played and came together,” assistant coach Jon Franquez said. “They played as a team and really dug deep when we needed them to. Even though they were down a couple of times in this tournament, they never gave up and kept fighting the whole way.”

Unlike last year, this win comes on July 4th, which makes it a little sweeter for Ka Ulukoa.

“We are going to have a good time tonight,” Engleman said with a smile. “Now we just have to find out where the fireworks are.”
