Texas Team Goes Unbeaten to Win 17 Open
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (July 2, 2014) – TAV 17 Black out of Fort Worth, Texas, defeated A5 Mizuno out of Atlanta, Ga., 25-14, 25-11, on Wednesday to win the 17 Open division at the USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

TAV (North Texas Region) went undefeated (10-0) throughout the tournament and went 20-0 in sets.
“We have worked so hard all year,” Head Coach Ping Cao said. “We trained hard for this tournament because we knew there were a lot of good teams here. It’s exciting to show our hard work and preparation.”
Some of the TAV players have been playing together since they were 12 years old.
“We have worked for this for months and years even,” TAV Captain Kylie Pickrell said. “We have all played together since we were 12 years old, and to finally get here, and play for a coach as great as Ping, and know that our work was worth it, and in the end we came out on top is an incredible feeling.”
Tying for third was Five Starz 17-1 out of Davis, Calif. and Club West 17-National out of Mira Loma, Calif. Five Starz fell to A5 in the semifinals, 25-22, 25-22. Club West fell to TAV, 25-21, 25-14.
Other winners in the 17 age group on Wednesday were CIA 17 Black out of Waterloo, Iowa, in the USA division, All Iowa Attack 17 Red out of Ames, Iowa, in the National division, Borinquen Coqui 17-1F out of Puerto Rico in the Patriot division, and Colorado Juniors/Kaepa 17 Judith out of Monument, Colo.
Play concludes Thursday with finals for the 16s age group division.
