HOUSTON, Texas –Front Range Volleyball Club (Rocky Mountain Region) captured gold at the Boys Junior National Championship, after downing Mountain View Volleyball Club (Northern California) 25-16, 25-23 to win the 14-year-old club division.
The win for FRVC came despite the cheers from MVVC fans, which were loud and frequent, but that didn’t bother the Colorado boys or their coach Trent Sellers.
“They know how to keep calm,” Sellers said about his team’s poise. “We’ve played all year without letting distractions get in the way of playing.”
FRVC had a nervous moment in the second set, as their lead dwindled to 22-21, but Sellers kept his players calm.
“I tried telling them to not be nervous,” Sellers said about his late timeout in the second set. “We needed to keep our heads and we would be okay.”
The FRVC boys would hang on to win 25-23, securing gold and a place for volleyball back in Colorado.
“We don’t have a boys division back in Colorado,” Sellers said. “So this is big for our group to win here against these kind of teams.”
Sellers spent his 20th birthday on a plane traveling to the BJNC, now he can spend the flight back with a gold medal around his neck.
