HOUSTON, Texas – Puerto Rico’s 18 club division San Juan Volleyball Club breezed through Tuesday’s gold medal match, much like it did the entire Boys Junior National Championship, to a two-set victory over Ventura County Volleyball Club (Southern California Region) 25-19, 25-16.

The win for San Juan gave Puerto Rico its’ second gold medal winning team at the BJNC, after Vaqueros Bayamon 12 club won gold on Monday.

Much like the youngsters, this Puerto Rican squad was just as prideful of their home country.

“It means a lot for our country,” coach Fernando Rivera said. “These players came from all over Puerto Rico, so for them to come together like this is special.”

The boys came together in a domination fashion, as they went 11-0 during the BJNC after only dropping two sets. Coach Rivera believes that dominance was a team effort, not belonging to one player or one coach.

“My team was great, my assistants were great,” coach Rivera said. “All of the players helped and were a part of this gold medal.”

As his team danced on the court with Puerto Rico’s flag draped around them, you could tell this coach was proud of what his team had accomplished. No matter the age, 12 or 18, both squads never forgot where they came from.
