Complete Your Athletic Resume with Video

Jan. 22, 2014, 3:40 p.m. (ET)

Club season has started and the number-one most important thing that coaches need to evaluate you is VIDEO. If you have an “athletic resume” with all of your information, stats and travel schedule but are missing video, it is absolutely incomplete!

VolleyballRecruits.net is run by former college volleyball players and know that video is something you cannot lack when introducing yourself to the college coaching community. VolleyballRecruits.net recommends three types of video: highlight reel, skills video and un-edited game film.

A highlight reel is a compilation of 15-20 clips showcasing a player’s best plays. This video type is meant to show a player’s “best of the best." It is very similar to “ESPN highlights” that you see on TV. Highlight reels are giving a coach a quick glance of what a player is capable of. This is definitely the video that catches the attention of coaches and gets them interested in watching more.

Skills videos are more fundamentally based and take less editing. Shooting a skills video can take place at your club’s gym where your coach runs through drills that pertain to your specific position. Each drill needs to have 3-5 back-to-back solid repetitions of that skill. The whole point of a skills video is to show a player’s consistency and fundamentals. Coaches will be able to have a closer look at your skill set and evaluate your overall potential at their program.

Lastly, you need to have game film readily available. Once a college coach has watched your highlight reel and skills video that means they really are interested and need to see you completely “edit free." VolleyballRecruits.net recommends picking out your top two sets, and if requested, you can always provide more or update/replace those sets as the season progresses.

You want to have your volleyball information, academic information, stats, test scores, tournament schedule, contact information and video all in one place! Your job is to make it as simple as possible for a coach to evaluate you and not have them go through too many steps. Where can you host all of this information? As a member of VolleyballRecruits.net, you get a profile that is built to hold all of this information in a concise and professional manner. Once your profile is built, you can use the built-in messaging system to send your profile to ANY college coach in the country. If you need help with editing these types of video, check out our packages here!
