COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 15, 2014) – Top collegiate coaches and USA Volleyball High Performance veterans have been selected to lead the 2014 Boys’ Youth and Men’s Junior National Teams into their respective NORCECA Championships.

USC Men’s Head Coach Bill Ferguson will serve as head coach for the U.S. Men’s Junior Team, which finished 11th at the 2013 FIVB Under-21 World Championship after winning the 2012 NORCECA Championship.
Dan Friend, head coach of the Lewis University men’s team, will serve as one assistant. Another assistant will be named later.
Ferguson has served as head coach for USA Volleyball’s important and successful Men’s Junior A2 program for many years. He is in his ninth year at USC and has reached the NCAA Championship tournament three times.
Friend was the head coach of the 2012 U.S. Boys’ Youth National Team and has served as an assistant on both youth and junior teams.
This year’s U.S. Men’s Junior Team will compete at the NORCECA Championship, scheduled for July 27-Aug. 4 in El Salvador in an attempt to qualify for the 2015 FIVB Under-21 World Championship.
Ken Shibuya, an assistant coach with the men’s team at Stanford, will head the U.S. Boys’ Youth Team, which finished 16th at the 2013 FIVB U19 World Championship after taking the bronze medal at the 2012 NORCECA Championship.
Shibuya’s assistants will be Kris Burzins from Loyola of Chicago and Brad Keller of UCLA.
Shibuya served as head coach of the 2011 Boys’ Youth National Team and has also served as an assistant for the boys’ youth team. Berzins was an assistant coach for the 2013 Boys’ Youth Team. Keller was an assistant coach for the 2010 Men’s Junior National Team.
The U.S. Boys’ Youth Team will compete in a NORCECA championship at a U.S. site to be determined to try to qualify for the 2015 FIVB U19 World Championship.
