Kiraly Headlines HP Coaches' Clinic
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 2, 2014) – U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team Head Coach Karch Kiraly (San Clemente, Calif.) will serve as the headline speaker for the 2014 USA Volleyball High Performance Coaches’ Clinic (HPCC) set for Feb. 6-8 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (OTC) in Colorado Springs.
Since 2004, the USA Volleyball High Performance Department has featured the annual HPCC as a way to bring together great coaching minds to network and share the most current, pertinent and critical issues in the sport. Topics vary annually and have covered ideas such as the men’s versus women’s game, sports psychology, uses of technology and drill ideas.
Along with Kiraly, U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team assistant coaches Jamie Morrison, Tom Black and Joe Trinsey, U.S. Men’s National Volleyball Team assistant coaches Matt Fuerbringer and Mike Wall, and U.S. Women’s athletic trainer Jill Wosmek will serve as featured speakers during the event. Both coaching staffs will show drills and techniques used within the USA gym as part of National Team training sessions.
During the HPCC, the U.S. Men’s National Sitting Volleyball Team will host its Canadian counterpart in a four-match series run. The matches will take place on Feb. 7 at 3 p.m. MT, Feb. 8 at 10 a.m. MT, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. MT and Feb. 9 at 8:30 a.m. MT. Full clinic registration includes instruction, materials, local transportation and room/board at the U.S. Olympic Training Center. In conjunction with the clinic, CAP I, II and III courses will be offered. Cap I & II will run Feb. 5-6 and CAP III will run Feb. 5-6 and Feb. 9.
Clinic registration is limited, both on-site and commuter registrations are available. The HPCC costs $475 for U.S. registrants and $775 for international attendees , which includes room and board at the OTC, meals and ground transportation between the Colorado Springs Airport and the U.S. Olympic Training Center. The HPCC cost for commuters with meals is $375. Registrations will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis until the clinic is full.

The HPCC demonstrators include top collegiate athletes from the A2 program as well as local collegiate athletes. The HPCC has been held at the OTC in Colorado Springs since its inception, giving the clinic an intimate setting for the 180 coaches in attendance. Sessions are designed to incorporate participant discussion in examining the decision-making process and the on-court execution to help create their own strategies and tactics for given situations.
Kiraly, who has won three Olympic Games gold medals and the only athlete to do so in both beach and indoor volleyball, led the U.S. Women to a 25-6 overall record in his first season as head coach this past year. Team USA earned gold medals at the Pan American Cup and NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship, as well as the silver medal at the season-ending FIVB World Grand Champions Cup. The U.S. finished with a 13-6 record against teams ranked among the top 10 in the world.
