By Bill Kauffman | Feb. 24, 2014, 3:55 p.m. (ET)

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Feb. 24, 2014) – USA Volleyball has announced the hiring of Quinton Kraeer as its Men’s Sitting National Team head coach, effective March 1.

“Quinton brings a significant amount of sitting volleyball knowledge to the Men’s Team,” said Bill Hamiter, director of USA Volleyball’s High Performance Sitting Program and head coach of the U.S. Women’s National Sitting Team. “Quinton has been an assistant coach with the Men’s Team this quad, so he knows the current players well and is well respected and liked,” Hamiter said. “He will be able to make an easy transition since he knows and understands the team’s current systems. Quinton will make an immediate impact with the team as they prepare for the World Championships in June.”

Kraeer, who has nine years of volleyball coaching experience, has served as a U.S. National Sitting Teams Program pipeline assistant coach for both the Men’s and Women’s Teams since 2008. He was a consultant coach with the 2010 World Championship team, along with being the program’s A2 head coach. Kraeer has worked as one of the Men’s Sitting Team assistant coaches since 2013.

“In my five and a half years with the Sitting Teams program, I never thought I would become the head coach of the Men's Sitting Team,” Kraeer said. “I am humbled and honored that Doug Beal and Bill Hamiter have the faith in me to represent our country and lead our men's team.”

Aside from his background with sitting volleyball, Kraeer has experience coaching junior and collegiate volleyball. Last fall he was an assistant coach at Phoenix College and is currently coaching at Revolution Volleyball Academy this season. From April 2010 to last summer Kraeer owned and coached various age groups of PHX Volleyball in Phoenix, Ariz. Kraeer was the head girls’ volleyball coach at South Pointe High School in Phoenix and head boys’ volleyball coach at Notre Dame Preparatory from 2010 to 2012. He served as Notre Dame Prep’s freshman girls’ volleyball coach in 2010-2011. Kraeer has other club coaching experience with Kaizen Volleyball, Oklahoma Wind, Charge Volleyball and AZ Sky Volleyball Club from 2005 to 2011.

“I am excited that Quinton has accepted this position and will help to prepare our Men’s Sitting Team for qualification into the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio,” USA Volleyball CEO Doug Beal said. “USA Volleyball is committed to the success of the Sitting Team Program, and this hire allows both the men’s and women’s teams to have their own head coach focused on their team.”

Kraeer holds USA Volleyball Coaching Accreditation Program (CAP) Level III and Beach CAP IMPACT certifications.

The U.S. Men’s Sitting Team qualified for the 2014 ParaVolley World Championship, set for June 6-23 in Poland, by earning the silver medal at the 2013 ParaVolley Pan American Sitting Volleyball Zonal Championship in October 2013.
