COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 5, 2014) – The USA Volleyball Cup, four exhibition matches between the U.S. Men’s National Team and Iran, has added the Bren Center at the University of California at Irvine as one of its stops.

The match at the Bren Center on Aug. 16 will replace Pauley Pavilion at UCLA, which could not be used after a water main break flooded the facility.

USA Volleyball has also announced the 14-person roster for the first match against Iran at the Galen Center on the campus of the University of Southern California.
The roster includes four alums of the Trojans men’s volleyball program: Setters Micah Christenson and Riley McKibbin, opposite Murphy Troy and outside hitter Tony Ciarelli. It also includes three 2012 Olympians: Outside hitter Matt Anderson and middle blockers Russell Holmes and David Smith.
The four matches will help both teams prepare for the 2014 FIVB Men’s World Championship on Aug. 30-Sept. 21 in Poland.
The U.S. Men are ranked No. 4 in the world and won the FIVB World League championship in July.
Iran, which advanced to the World League Final Round where it defeated No. 1 ranked Brazil, is ranked No. 11, but is on the move. Iran is the two time Asian zonal champion
On Aug. 9, the two teams will play at 7 p.m. at the Galen Center on the campus of the University of Southern California. (Get tickets)

The U.S. Men lost to Iran at the 2013 FIVB Grand Champions Cup, but then defeated it in the 2014 World League Final Round. The United States has a 3-1 record against Iran since 1980.
In 2013, Iran made its debut in the FIVB World League and finished ninth. It took victories over Serbia, Italy, Germany and Cuba.
