COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 22, 2013) – The U.S. men’s beach volleyball team of Will Montgomery and Stafford Slick qualified for the main draw of the FIVB Grand Slam in Xiamen, China on Tuesday.
Montgomery and Slick, seeded No. 8 in qualifying, defeated Kazakhstan's No. 9 Dmitriy Yakovlev and Alexey Kuleshov, 21-13, 21-18 in 35 minutes.

Slick and Montgomery are seeded 30 in the men’s main draw, which will begin on Wednesday. Also beginning main draw competition on Wednesday will be the U.S. men’s teams of Jake Gibb (Bountiful, Utah) and Casey Patterson (Van Nuys, Calif.), seeded No. 6, and No. 26 seeded Theo Brunner (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Todd Rogers (Santa Barbara, Calif.).
Women’s qualifying also begins on Wednesday, but the United States will not have a qualifying team. The U.S. team of Emily Day (Torrance, Calif.) and Summer Ross (Carlsbad, Calif.) has moved directly into the main draw after the U.S. team of Jennifer Fopma (Bellflower, Calif.) and Brooke Sweat (Fort Myers, Fla.) withdrew Monday due to injury.
Other U.S. women’s teams scheduled to compete in the main draw are April Ross (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and Kerri Walsh Jennings (Saratoga, Calif.) and also Lauren Fendrick (Carlsbad, Calif.) and Brittany Hochevar (Fowler, Colo.).
