IRVINE, Calif. (May 31, 2013) - Kristin Hildebrand (Orem, Utah) and Kelly Murphy (Wilmington, Ill.) scored 15 and 14 points, respectively in leading the offensive production at the third U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team Red-Blue Scrimmage played Friday evening at Irvine Valley College in California.
The scrimmage, which had players changing jerseys and sides of the court, was a modified match of six sets played to 15 points each in front of over 800 fans.
Hildebrand tallied 12 kills, three blocks and an ace from her outside hitter position. Murphy, an opposite, was credited with 12 kills and two blocks during the scrimmage. Alix Klineman (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Rachael Adams (Cincinnati) were credited with nine points each with each securing eight kills in the process. Klineman reached her total on 14 attacks and just one error. Lauren Paolini (Ann Arbor, Mich.) pocketed six kills on eight errorless attacks to go with one block and one ace.
Juliann Faucette (San Diego), who sang the national anthem in the pre-match festivities, scored six kills and a block for seven points. Alaina Bergsma (Chandler, Ariz.) tallied five kills and two blocks for seven points. Jessica Jones (Naperville, Ill.) matched Hildebrand’s match-high three blocks to reach five total points.
Following the scrimmage at Irvine Valley College, the U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team will compete in the Pan American Cup June 10-16 at Lima, Peru. The next Red-Blue scrimmage will take place June 21 at Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego (5555 Del Mar Heights Road). The scrimmage is a prelude to the opening match of the USA Volleyball Cup in which the U.S. Women host Japan July 10 at UC San Diego. The USA Volleyball Cup series continues on July 12 at Long Beach State University and on July 13 at JSerra High School in San Juan Capistrano, Calif.
