COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 30, 2013) – Players took to the sand in Fort Wayne, Ind. on May 18-19 as the 2013 USA Volleyball Junior Beach Tour continued with the Fort Wayne Hoosier Beach Classic.
The top three teams in each division earned a place in the Invitational Division at the National Championships on July 27-28 in Milwaukee, Wis.
There were six teams in the girls’ 18-and-under age group. It was won by Bailee and Holly Hankenson (both of Decatur, Ind.), while the duo of Taylor James (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Brittney Miller (Leo, Ind.) took second. Rebekah Strange (Avon, Ind.) and Cassidy Baird (Indianapolis, Ind.) placed third after defeating Jordan Lentz (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Sara Miller (Fort Wayne, Ind.).
Halle Truett (Elmhurst, Ill.) and Ariah Palter (Elmhurst, Ill.) placed first out of the 16 teams in girls’ 16U, defeating the second-place team of Shelby Martin (The Colony, Texas) and Allie Schmidt (Plano, Texas). Jennifer Baumer (Bluffton, Ind.) and Suzanne Peters (Roanoke, Ind.) grabbed third place.
The girls’ 14U division was comprised of eight teams and saw the duo of Marissa Godfrey (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Alaina Schenkel (Fort Wayne, Ind.) claim first place. Lilly Kruse (Auburn, Ind.) and Abigail Bojrab (Fort Wayne, Ind.) nabbed second, and Breanna Demmers (Maumee, Ohio) and Tre’Ana King (Toledo, Ohio)won third over Lauren and Nicole Varvir (both of Parma, Ohio).
In the girls’ 12U division, Jordan Martin (Huntertown, Ind.) and Carsyn Houser (Fort Wayne, Ind.) took the top spot as the only team.
On the boys’ side, the 18U division was made up of two teams. Tony Price (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Teddy Hesterman (Fort Wayne, Ind.) took the top spot over Max Hansen (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Evan Gebert (Fort Wayne, Ind.), who placed second.
The USAV Junior Beach tour next rolls in to Santa Cruz, Calif., on June 1 for the NorCal Grand Slam and Houston, Texas, on June 1-2 for the Houston Open.
