In August, the U.S. Women’s Sitting Team will visit the Russian team in Moscow.

“This is a chance for both teams to get more international experience,” U.S. Women’s Sitting Volleyball Team Head Coach Bill Hamiter (Bethany, Okla.) said. “We will be using these matches to evaluate some of our newer, younger players as well as keeping the veterans in competitive shape.”

Seven players from the 2012 U.S. Paralympic Sitting Volleyball Team that won the silver medal in London will participate for the U.S. Women: Monique Burkland (Ardmore, Okla.), Heather Erickson (Fayetteville, N.C.), Katie Holloway (Lake Stevens, Wash.), Kaleo Kanahele (Oklahoma City, Okla.), Kendra Lancaster (Westfield, Ind.), Nichole Millage (Champaign, Ill.) and Kari Miller (Washington, D.C.).

Newer players who will participate are Angela DeHaan (Yuba City, Calif.), Alexis Shifflet (Waseca, Minn.), Abby Mueller (Houston, Texas), Nicole Nieves (Kissimmee, Fla.) and Bethany Zummo (Dublin, Calif.).

On May 15, UCO and the City of Edmond will host Russia with a tour of the Edmond Historical Museum. The two teams will have dinner at UCO’s Jazz Lab where a Russian pianist will perform while the teams enjoy their dinner. The teams will be joined by the City’s Mayor, Charles Lamb, City Council Member Victoria Caldwell and City Manager Larry Stevens.

On May 16, the two teams will hold a joint practice session in the morning before the matches begin on May 17.
