COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 21, 2013) – The 2013 USA Volleyball Junior Beach Tour will bring beach volleyball fun and excitement to at least 18 regions across 17 states this summer.

USAV Junior Beach Tour LogoUSA Volleyball has released a preliminary schedule for the tour, which will peak at the National Championships to be held July 27-28 in Milwaukee, Wis. Teams can earn bids to compete in the Invitational Division at the National Championships in preceding Junior Beach Tour Events. There will also be an Open Division that will be open to anyone.

Also on the schedule are four Beach Skills Clinics, paid for by a grant from Proctor & Gamble, to be held in conjunction with the Tour events in Omaha, Chicago, Seattle and Rochester, N.Y. Beach Skills Clinics are aimed at exposing new participants to the sport of beach volleyball.

Registration for tour events and clinics will open by Wednesday, March 27 on the USA Volleyball web site.

New for 2013 will be the USA Junior Beach National Ranking. All participants in the Junior Beach Tour will receive national ranking points for every event they enter. Point leaders at the end of the season will be invited to Holiday High Performance Camp. Also new for 2013, the tour will include both “Open” and “Grand Slam” events. Grand Slam events will offer five bids per division to the National Championships and extra ranking points. Open events will offer three bids per division to the National Championships.

“The United States had great success in beach volleyball at the 2012 Olympic Games and NCAA sand volleyball is gaining momentum,” USA Volleyball Director of Beach Programs Ali Wood Lamberson said. “The Junior Beach Tour is the best way for young athletes to take the first step in beach volleyball.”

On the Junior Beach Tour schedule are two invitational events. The fourth annual Beach High Performance Championships and a new event, the USA International Invitational. Both events are for experienced beach athletes looking to advance in the USA Beach pipeline. More information on USA Beach pipeline events is available on the USA Volleyball web site.

This is the eighth season of the Junior Beach Tour, which is open to boys’ and girls’ beach volleyball teams (no co-ed teams) and has divisions for ages 10-18. In 2012, a record 3,438 young athletes participated in the tour.

The USAV Junior Beach Tour focuses on competition and fun in a healthy environment. Players officiate their own matches and the events foster a friendly environment among competitors. The Tour is produced and operated by USA Volleyball in cooperation with the USAV regions.
