COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 17, 2013) – The USA Volleyball Beach Collegiate Challenge concluded on Sunday with a final dual meet as Nebraska defeated Grand Canyon University, 5-0 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
The closest contest of the day was at No. 1 where Nebraska’s Kesley Robinson and Alexa Strange had to hold off Grand Canyon’s Kristen Johannsen and Mackenzie Phelps, 21-13, 19-21, 15-9.
The Collegiate Challenge did not include an official team competition because there was not enough time for all the teams to play each other. However, Pepperdine finished with the best team record at 3-0. Florida State finished 2-1.
Nebraska, which made its sand volleyball debut in Chula Vista, and CSU Bakersfield were each 1-2 and Grand Canyon University finished 0-3.
USA Volleyball will hold a second Collegiate Challenge on April 21-22 in Hermosa Beach, Calif. The teams scheduled to participate are Pepperdine, Southern California (USC), CSU Long Beach, Hawaii, Loyola Marymount, UCLA, Santa Clara and CSU Bakersfield.
