COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 12, 2013) – All the news about U.S. men’s volleyball players in the U.S. and around the world.

ARGENTINA

The Argentinian Serie A1 league completed its regular season last week. U.S. setter Donald Suxho (Korce, Albania), a 2004 and ’12 Olympian, and Drean Bolívar finished the regular season in second place and went 2-1 in the final week. On March 4, Bolívar beat the UPCN San Juan Voley Club, 25-18, 26-24, 23-25, 25-15. Suxho scored three points on two kills and an ace. He set the team to a 61.4 kill percent and a .594 hitting efficiency. On March 9, Bolívar defeated La Unión de Formosa, 23-25, 25-17, 29-27, 25-23. Suxho scored five points on three kills, one block and one ace. He set his team to a 58.3 kill percent and a .542 hitting efficiency. On March 11, Bolívar fell to Sarmiento Santana Textiles 25-22, 25-19, 15-25, 25-22. Suxho did not play in the match. The playoffs will begin on March 16 with Bolívar hosting PSM Voley for two matches to open a best-of-five series.

ITALY

Italy’s Serie A league completed its regular season with matches on March 10. U.S. outside hitter Max Holt (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Copra Elior Piacenza finished the regular season in third place with a 15-7 record. In the final match of the regular season, Piacenza defeated Marmi Lanza Verona, 25-22, 23-25, 25-17, 25-18. Holt did not play in the match. However, U.S. middle blocker Futi Tavana (Saipipi, Samoa) started all four sets and scored 11 points on six attacks (75.0 kill percent, .750 hitting efficiency), a team-high six blocks and one ace. Piacenza will play Sir Safety Perugia in the playoff quarterfinals, which will begin on March 28.

U.S. opposite Murphy Troy (St. Louis, Mo.) and Andreoli Latina won their final match of the regular season over Casa Modena, 25-19, 25-20, 25-18 on March 10. Troy substituted in the second set and started the third, finishing with six points on four attacks and two aces. Latina finished the regular season in seventh place with a record of 11-11. It will play Altotevere San Giustino in a best-of-three playoff for the chance to go to the quarterfinals. The first two matches will be on March 13 and 17. The final match will be March 24 if necessary.

U.S. outside hitter Jeff Menzel (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and BCC-NEB Castellana Grotte won their final regular season match over U.S. setter Riley McKibbin (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Altotevere San Giustino, 23-25, 17-25, 25-23, 25-22, 15-13 on March 10. Menzel played as a substitute and started the third and fourth sets scoring three points on three kills. McKibbin scored four points on two attacks and two blocks and also set San Giustino to a 50.4 kill percent and a .449 hitting efficiency. Castellana Grotte finished the regular season in eighth place with an 11-11 record. It will play Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia in a best-of-three playoff for the chance to go to the quarterfinals. The first two matches will be on March 13 and 17. The final match will be March 24 if necessary. San Giustino finished the regular season in 10th place with a 6-16 record and will play Andreoli Latina in the playoffs.

In Italy’s Serie A2 league, U.S. outside hitter Garrett Muagututia (Oceanside, Calif.) and Sieco Service Ortona fell to Vero Volley Monza 20-25, 25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 15-10. Muagututia scored 14 points on 13 attacks and one ace. He was credited with 45 receptions, 60 percent positive.

POLAND

U.S. outside hitter Paul Lotman (Lakewood, Calif.), a 2012 Olympian, and his Polish league team Asseco Resovia Rzeszów are 1-1 in the second round of the Plus Liga playoffs. On March 10, host Delecta Bydgoszcz defeated Resovia Rzeszów, 27-25, 21-25, 25-19, 20-25, 15-13. Lotman scored eight points on seven kills and one ace. He was also credited with 38 receptions, 53 percent positive. To view photos from the match, click here. On March 11, visiting Resovia Rzeszów came back to defeat Bydgoszcz, 25-22, 18-25, 26-24, 25-23. Lotman scored 16 points on 10 attacks, a match-high five blocks and one ace. He was credited with 43 receptions, 56 percent positive. To view photos from the match, click here. The series will resume on March 24 in Resovia Rzeszów.

U.S. middle blocker Russell Holmes (Fountain Valley, Calif.), a 2012 Olympian, and Jastrzębski Węgiel are 1-0 against ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle in the second round of the playoffs. On March 8, host Węgiel defeated Kędzierzyn-Koźle, 27-25, 28-26, 25-15. Holmes scored eight points on four attacks (80.0 kill percent, .800 hitting efficiency), two blocks and two aces. TURKEY

U.S. outside hitter Reid Priddy (Richmond, Va.), a 2004, ’08 and ’12 Olympian, and Halkbank Ankara defeated Ziraat Bankasi Spor, 25-15, 25-22, 24-26, 25-17 on March 9. Priddy scored six points on four kills and two blocks. He was credited with 23 receptions, 65 percent positive. Halkbank is in second place in the league with a 15-4 record.

U.S. setter Kevin Hansen (Newport Beach, Calif.), a 2008 Olympian, an Arkas Izmir Spor fell to Galatasaray Erkek, 25-22, 17-25, 25-15, 22-25, 15-11 on March 9. Hansen started the first three sets and played as a substitute in the fourth and fifth. He scored two points on two blocks. He helped the team to a 45.3 kill percent and a .342 hitting efficiency. Izmir is in first place in the league with a 16-4 record.

FRANCE

U.S. middle blocker David Smith (Saugus, Calif.), a 2012 Olympian, and the French league team Tours continue to lead the league after a, 21-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-20 victory over Toulouse, which includes U.S. opposite Evan Patak (Pleasanton, Calif.) and middle blocker Andy Hein (Carol Stream, Ill.). Smith scored 11 points on eight attacks (80.0 kill percent and .800 hitting efficiency) and a team-high three blocks.

U.S. opposite Carson Clark (Santa Barbara, Calif.), libero Alfee Reft (Oxnard, Calif.) and Montpellier defeated Tourcoing, 25-21, 25-17, 28-26 on March 8. Clark led all scorers with 14 points on nine attacks, three blocks and two aces. Reft was credited with 23 receptions, 43 percent positive.

Cannes, the French league team of U.S. outside hitter Robert Tarr (Cape Canaveral, Fla.) and middle blocker Matt Rawson (Los Angeles), defeated Chaumont, 22-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-21, 15-12 on March 9. Rawson scored 14 points on seven attacks (70.0 kill percent, .600 hitting efficiency), a match-high six blocks and one ace.

In France’s B league, AS Orange Nassau, including U.S. libero Dustin Watten (Long Beach, Calif.) and outside hitters Damien Scott (Santa Ana, Calif.) and Eric Vance (Camarillo, Calif.) defeated Alès, 26-28, 25-20, 25-22, 25-14 on March 9. Vance scored 15 points on 10 attacks (62.5 kill percent, .625 hitting efficiency), one block and four aces. Scott added 11 points on eight attacks and three aces. Watten was credited with eight receptions, 88 percent positive. Orange is in second place in the league with a record of 14-8.

RUSSIA

Making up for a few weeks off from Super League play, U.S. outside hitter Matt Anderson (West Seneca, N.Y.), a 2012 Olympian, and Zenit Kazan went 2-0 in two matches last week. On March 6, Kazan defeated Kuzbass Kemerovo, 25-16, 25-18, 25-20. Anderson finished with 10 points on 10 kills (62.5 kill percent, .625 hitting efficiency) and was credited with 13 receptions, 54 percent positive. On March 10, Kazan defeated Dinamo Moscow, 23-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-20. Anderson led Kazan with 18 points on 11 kills (57.9 kill percent, .526 hitting efficiency), three blocks and a match-high four aces. The Super League regular season will conclude with matches on March 27.

FINLAND

The Finnish team Raision Loimu, which includes U.S. opposite Dean Bittner (Lakewood, Calif.), middle blocker Dan McDonnell (Glendale, Ariz.) and outside hitter Jordan Dufault (Lakewood, Calif.) played its last regular season home match on March 10 as it defeated Kokkolan Tiikerit 25-21, 25-15, 25-19. Bittner led all scorers with 27 points on 21 attacks (75.0 kill percent, .750 hitting efficiency) and a match-high five blocks. McDonnell added six points on two attacks and four blocks. CEV CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

In the Champions League semifinal, U.S. outside hitter Matt Anderson (West Seneca, N.Y.), a 2012 Olympian, along with U.S. middle blocker David Lee (Alpine, Calif.), a 2008 and 2012 Olympian, will play fellow Russian Super League team Lokomotiv Novosibirsk in the semifinals, which will be played on March 16 in Omsk, Russia. Italy’s Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo will play Poland’s Zaksa Kedzierzyn-Kozle in the other semifinal.

CEV CHALLENGE CUP

Max Holt and Copra Elior Piacenza have advanced to the finals of the CEV Challenge Cup and will play Russia’s Ural Ufa in the two-match finals. Piacenza will travel to Ufa on March 20 for the first match while it will host the Russian team on March 24.
