COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 4, 2013) – All the news about U.S. men’s volleyball players in the U.S. and around the world.

CEV CUP

U.S. outside hitter Reid Priddy (Richmond, Va.), a 2004, ’08 and ’12 Olympian, and Halkbank Ankara defeated U.S. opposite Murphy Troy (St. Louis, Mo.) and Andreoli Latina in two matches to win the CEV Cup final. Priddy was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. In the first match in Latina, Italy on Feb. 27, Ankara defeated Latina, 25-22, 24-26, 25-21, 25-21. Priddy scored 14 points on 10 attacks, three blocks and one ace. He was credited with 14 receptions, 71 percent positive. Troy played as a substitute and scored one point on one attack. In the second match in Ankara on March 3, Priddy scored 11 points on 11 attacks. He was credited with 22 receptions, 91 percent positive. Troy did not play in the match.

CEV CHALLENGE CUP

U.S. middle blocker Max Holt (Cincinnati, Ohio) and his Italian league team Copra Elior Piacenza have advanced to the finals of the CEV Challenge Cup after defeating Dukla Liberec of Czech Republic, which includes U.S. outside hitter Ryan Burrow (Racine, Wis.), in two matches. On Feb. 27 in Italy, Piacenza defeated Liberec, 25-14, 26-24, 25-16. Holt scored seven points on two attacks, four blocks and one ace. Burrow played as a substitute and did not score. On March 2 in Czech Republic, Piacenza defeated Liberec, 25-14, 25-20, 25-13. Holt scored 15 points on seven attacks (87.5 kill percent, .750 hitting efficiency), a match-high seven blocks and one ace. Burrow started the second and third sets and scored five points on five attacks. He was also credited with 14 receptions, 100 percent positive. Piacenza will play Russia’s Ural Ufa in the finals. The dates have not been announced yet.

CEV CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

In the Champions League semifinal, U.S. outside hitter Matt Anderson (West Seneca, N.Y.), a 2012 Olympian, along with U.S. middle blocker David Lee (Alpine, Calif.), a 2008 and 2012 Olympian, will play fellow Russian Super League team Lokomotiv Novosibirsk in the semifinals, which will be played on March 16 in Omsk, Russia. Italy’s Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo will play Poland’s Zaksa Kedzierzyn-Kozle in the other semifinal.

POLAND

Poland’s Plus Liga is now in the playoffs and both teams with U.S. players went 3-2 in the first round to advance to the second round.

U.S. middle blocker Russell Holmes (Fountain Valley, Calif.), a 2012 Olympian, and Jastrzębski Węgiel won their third match of the best-of-five series on March 3 as they defeated Effector Kielce, 25-19, 25-22, 25-18. Holmes scored four points on two kills, one block and one ace. To view photos from the match, click here. Węgiel will play ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle in the second round, which begins on March 7.

U.S. outside hitter Paul Lotman (Lakewood, Calif.), a 2012 Olympian, and his Polish league team Asseco Resovia Rzeszów won their deciding match on March 4 as they defeated PGE Skra Bełchatów, 25-23, 25-20, 21-25, 15-25, 15-12. Lotman scored 13 points on 11 attacks and two blocks. He was also credited with 32 receptions, 31 percent positive. Resovia Rzeszów will play Delecta Bydgoszcz in the next round, which will begin on March 10.

GERMANY

U.S. outside hitter Scott Touzinsky (St. Louis, Mo.), a 2008 Olympian, setter Kawika Shoji (Honolulu, Hawaii) and the German league team the Berlin Recycling Volleys finished the regular season in first place. In the final match of the season, Berlin defeated TV Rottenburg, 25-13, 25-17, 25-12. Touzinsky played in the match after recovering from knee surgery. He started the first set and scored one point with a kill. He was credited with 10 receptions, 50 percent positive. Shoji started the first two sets and helped the team to a 60.7 kill percent and a .607 hitting efficiency. He also scored two points on a block and an ace. To view photos from the match, click here. Berlin will begin the playoffs on March 17 against a team that will be determined by the “pre playoffs.”

FRANCE

U.S. middle blocker David Smith (Saugus, Calif.), a 2012 Olympian, and the French league team Tours continue to lead the league after a 26-24, 25-22, 25-21 victory over Narbonne on March 1. Smith scored 10 points on six attacks (75.0 kill percent, .625 hitting efficiency), two blocks and two aces.

U.S. opposite Carson Clark (Santa Barbara, Calif.), libero Alfee Reft (Oxnard, Calif.) and Montpellier defeated Ajaccio, 22-25, 25-13, 21-25, 25-16, 15-8 on March 2. Clarks scored 13 points on 12 attacks and one ace. Reft was credited with 38 receptions, 63 percent positive.

Cannes, the French league team of U.S. outside hitter Robert Tarr (Cape Canaveral, Fla.) and middle blocker Matt Rawson (Los Angeles), fell to Nantes Rezé, 25-20, 26-24, 25-18 on March 2. Rawson scored five points on three attacks and two blocks. Tarr did not play due to injury.

Toulouse, including U.S. opposite Evan Patak (Pleasanton, Calif.) and middle blocker Andy Hein (Carol Stream, Ill.), fell to Arago Sete, 23-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-21, 15-11. Patak scored 20 points on 17 kills and three blocks. Hein added 12 points on five attacks, a team-high six blocks and one ace.

In France’s B league, AS Orange Nassau, including U.S. libero Dustin Watten (Long Beach, Calif.) and outside hitters Damien Scott (Santa Ana, Calif.) and Eric Vance (Camarillo, Calif.) defeated St. Nazaire, 25-19, 25-22, 25-23 on March 2. Vance scored nine points on nine attacks (52.9 kill percent, .471 hitting efficiency). He was credited with 13 receptions, 69 percent positive. Scott scored six points on three attacks and three aces. He was credited with 28 receptions, 89 percent positive. Watten was credited with 11 receptions, 91 percent positive.

TURKEY

U.S. opposite Brook Billings (Santa Barbara, Calif.), a 2004 Olympian, and Istanbul BBSK defeated Gümüşhane Torul Gençlik, 25-20, 25-14, 25-19 on March 2. Billings scored seven points on five attacks (62.5 kill percent, .500 hitting efficiency) and two blocks.

U.S. setter Kevin Hansen (Newport Beach, Calif.), a 2008 Olympian, an Arkas Spor fell to Maliye Milli Piyango, 25-19, 25-21, 22-25, 18-25, 15-12 on March 2. Hansen started the first two sets and scored two points on two aces.

ARGENTINA

U.S. setter Donald Suxho (Korce, Albania), a 2004 and ’12 Olympian, and his Argentina league team Drean Bolívar defeated PSM Voley, 25-17, 25-22, 25-19 on March 2. Suxho scored four points on one kill, one block and two aces. He set Bolívar to a 67.2 kill percent and a .594 hitting efficiency.

ITALY

In Italy’s Serie A2 league, U.S. outside hitter Garrett Muagututia (Oceanside, Calif.) and Sieco Service Ortona defeated Elettrosud Brolo, 25-20, 25-20, 21-25, 25-18 on March 3. Muagututia scored 10 points on eight kills and two blocks. He was credited with 26 receptions, 77 percent positive.
