Young Beach Teams Competing Far and Wide

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 24, 2013) – Up-and-coming U.S. beach volleyball teams will be traveling around the globe to represent their country at international events starting this week and continuing into July.
Beginning this week, the U.S. women’s teams of Morgan Beck Miller (Coto de Caza, Calif.)/Tealle Hunkus (Girard, Ohio), Heather Hughes (Fallbrook, Calif.)/Kaitlin Sather Nielsen (Santa Rosa, Calif.) and Summer Ross (San Diego, Calif.)/Emily Day (Torrance, Calif.) are slated to compete at the FIVB Anapa Open on July 23-28 in Russia.
The U.S. men’s teams slated to compete in Russia are Jeff Carlson (Newport Beach, Calif.)/Andy McGuire (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Will Montgomery (Santa Barbara, Calif.)/Avery Drost (Redondo Beach, Calif.).
Two young teams will be competing on June 28-30 at the 2013 Ontario Volleyball Association Grand Slam in Canada. Kirby Burnham (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Meg Norton (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) will compete in the women’s event while Chris van Vuuren (Fountain Valley, Calif.) and Ian Satterfield (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) will play in the men’s event.
Four teams will compete on July 8-13 at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia.
On the men’s side, Montgomery (UC Irvine) will join forces with Tri Bourne (Aiea, Hawaii; Southern California [USC]) and Carlson (USC) will play with Connor Hughes (Costa Mesa, Calif.; UC Irvine). For the women, Stevi Robinson (Hermosa Beach, Calif.; USC) will play with Caitlin Ledoux (Phelan, Calif.; Long Beach State). Lane Carico (Manhattan Beach, Calif.; Georgia State) will compete with Emily Stockman (Colorado Springs, Colo.; Wichita State).
Traveling with the players will be coaches Anna Collier and Anjinho Eduardo Bacil along with statistician Patricia Dodd.
The third of three FIVB age group beach volleyball world championships will be the U19 event on July 11-14 in Porto, Portugal.
Representing the United States on the women’s side will be Sara Hughes (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and Kelly Claes (Placentia Calif.) along with Delaney Knudsen (Valencia, Calif.) and Skylar Caputo (Manhattan Beach, Calif.). For the men, watch for TJ DeFalco (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Lucas Yoder (San Clemente, Calif.) as well as Louis Richard (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Oliver Martin (Calabasas, Calif.). Jon Aharoni will travel as head coach of the team, assisted by Barb Fontana.
