COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 22, 2013) – The U.S. women’s beach volleyball team of Alexa Strange (San Clemente, Calif.) and Jace Pardon (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) along with the men’s team of Chris Long (Tustin, Calif.) and Branden Clemens (Carmel, Ind.) each finished tied for ninth on Saturday at the FIVB U21 World Championships in Umag, Croatia.
Long and Clemens, seeded No. 4, won their first-round match over Norway’s No. 32 Einar Øglænd Torjusen and Sadegh Mohajer, 18-21, 21-16, 15-9 in 48 minutes. They fell in the second round to Poland’s No. 2 seeded Maciej Kosiak and Maciej Rudol, 21-17, 21-17 in 33 minutes.
Strange and Pardon, seeded No. 24, won their first-round match on Saturday over No. 12 Valeria De Los Angeles Ramirez Caldera and Gabriela Brito of Venezuela, 21-9, 21-11 in 25 minutes. But they fell in the second round to Switzerland’s No. 3 Nina Betschart and Nicole Eiholzer, 21-13, 22-20 in 34 minutes.
