Junior Beach Tour Revisits Texas

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 20, 2013) – A total of 63 teams competed for 12 bids to the National Championships that were allotted June 1-2 at the Houston Open in Houston, Texas.

The top three teams in each of the four divisions division earned bids for the Invitational Division at the National Championships on July 27-28 in Milwaukee, Wis.

Six teams competed in the girls’ 18-and-under division where the first- and second-place teams were from Austin, Texas. The first-place team was comprised of Alexa Richardson and Honor Baker while the second-place team included Victoria Paranagua and Mary Pat Wehmeyer. Meanwhile, the Fort Worth, Texas, team of Paige Panter and Tarin Mergener grabbed third.

The 16U division included 26 teams. Ashlan Cunningham (Grapevine, Texas) and Jamie Stivers (Houston) captured first. The pair of Madeline Walsh (Arlington, Texas) and Meredith Delaney Wood (Westlake, Texas) placed second, while the team of Ali Eager (Highland Village, Texas) and Sydney Mike-Mayer (Heath, Texas) finished third.

The 14U division had 20 teams competing where Jacqueline Ribeiro (Austin, Texas) and Madison Jaeger (Austin, Texas) earned first place. Second place went to the Fort Worth, Texas pair of Miles Baker and Sadie McCarter, while Maja Kaiser (Bulvede, Texas) and Rebekah Brodbeck (San Antonio, Texas) finished third.

Nine teams compete in the 12U group where the McKinney, Texas team of Madeline Speicher and Savannah Funk netted first place. Sutton MacTavish (Fort Worth, Texas) and Jill Dickens (Fort Worth, Texas) placed second while third place went to Jessica Lamont (College Station, Texas) and Emily Edwards (College Station, Texas).

Five USAV Junior Beach Tour events scheduled for this upcoming weekend include the Santa Monica Open (June 22 in Santa Monica, Calif.), the Heart of America Open (June 22-23 in Kansas City, Mo.), the Lone Star Beach Classic (June 22-23 in Austin, Texas), the Central Open 2 (June 23 in Milwaukee, Wis.) and the Great Lakes Open (June 23 in Rochester, N.Y.)
