Gibb, Patterson Knocked Out in 3rd Round
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 15, 2013) – The U.S. men’s beach volleyball team of Jake Gibb and Casey Patterson missed their chance to win a fourth straight FIVB medal on Saturday at the Transavia The Hague Grand Slam in the Netherlands.
Gibb (Bountiful, Utah) and Patterson (Van Nuys, Calif.), seeded No.5, were eliminated from the tournament after losing to Brazil’s No. 4 Pedro Salgado and Bruno Schmidt, 21-18, 21-10 in 35 minutes.
Gibb and Patterson won medals in the last three straight FIVB beach events (gold at the Shanghai Grand Slam, silver at the Corrientes Grand Slam and the World Cup Final) and will be looking to add to that haul.
The next event on the FIVB World Tour is the smart Grand Slam – Rome on June 18-23. Gibb and Patterson are entered in the men’s bracket along with Phil Dalhausser (Ormond Beach, Fla.) and Sean Rosenthal (Redondo Beach, Calif.), Todd Rogers (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Ryan Doherty (Toms River, N.J.), Brad Keenan (Westminster, Calif.) and John Mayer (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) and also Nick Lucena (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and John Hyden (Sherman Oaks, Calif.).
The women’s bracket will include the U.S. teams of Jennifer Kessy (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) and April Ross (Costa Mesa, Calif.), Lauren Fendrick (Carlsbad, Calif.) and Brittany Hochevar (Fowler, Colo.), Jennifer Fopma (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) and Brooke Sweat (Fort Myers, Fla.) and also Emily Day (Torrance, Calif.) and Whitney Pavlik (Laguna Beach, Calif.).
